Karen joined Madderns in January 2006 and has since completed a Master of Industrial Property. She is a registered Australian and New Zealand patent attorney specialising in the life sciences.
She has previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, where her investigations involved immune cell signalling and cellular interactions (specifically involving Fc receptors), and some of these findings were published in Nature Medicine. She has also spent a year in Japan as a scientific editor and English proofreader of a variety of biotechnological patents and scientific papers.
Karen’s PhD investigated the effect of genetically overexpressed cytokines on inflammation during bacterial pneumonia and their effect on efficacy during live attenuated bacterial vaccination. Her first class Honours degree was awarded for her studies on anti-sense RNA in HIV retroviral gene therapy. |
