Anthony joined Madderns in 2003 and was appointed a Partner in 2008. Anthony’s practice encompasses advising clients active in a broad and diverse variety of technologies extending from computer related inventions and medical devices to optics and telecommunications.

Anthony works with these clients to protect their technical developments by drafting and prosecuting patent applications and developing patent portfolios. He also has a significant practice advising clients involved in contentious patent matters both asserting intellectual property rights or defending against competitor actions.

Anthony’s high level of technical expertise in physics and computing is underpinned by Bachelor’s and Honours degrees in Experimental and Mathematical Physics, and a PhD in Computational Physics. Anthony’s legal qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Graduate Diplomas in Intellectual Property Law and Legal Practice.

Prior to registering as a Patent and Trade Marks Attorney, Anthony spent 10 years working as a research physicist in industry and held consulting engineering positions providing technical expertise in areas ranging from ophthalmic lens design and product process improvement to computer training simulators. Consequently, Anthony’s advice to clients has a strong commercial focus recognising ultimately that intellectual property rights are a business tool.

Anthony has been named as a patent and trade mark “IP Star” by the respected international journal, Managing Intellectual Property.
